An MS in Computer Science in Ireland is a one-year, 90-ECTS Level 9 MSc with 2026/27 non-EU tuition of €18,000 at Maynooth (about ₹19.6 lakh) to €31,780 at UCD (₹34.6 lakh). Entry needs a 2.1 honours degree in computing or a numerate subject (66–74% on UCC's Indian scale) and IELTS 6.5 overall; GRE is not required. Graduates can apply for Stamp 1G: 12 months, plus a 12-month renewal (24 in total) on evidence of graduate job search.
Why do Indian students pick Ireland for an MS in Computer Science?
Ireland offers a one-year, 90-ECTS MSc that leads into Stamp 1G work permission. For an Indian BTech, BE, BCA or BSc graduate that means one year of tuition and rent instead of two, and a work route built around the Critical Skills Occupations List, where mainstream software roles appear by name.
The trade-offs are cost and timing. UCD's €31,780 (about ₹34.6 lakh) is above the €31,000 (about ₹33.8 lakh) ceiling Education in Ireland lists for science and technology master's in 2025/26, Dublin rent is the highest in the country, and selective programmes close early.

Eligibility for MS in CS in Ireland: what Indian degrees and marks are accepted
The pattern is a 2.1 honours degree in computing or a numerate discipline with proven programming ability. UCC publishes the only official Indian-percentage mapping we found.
| Requirement | What the universities state | What it means for an Indian applicant |
|---|---|---|
| Degree subject | Computing or a related discipline (Trinity); CS or computer applications (DCU); 50% of credits in CS and IT (UCC) | BTech/BE in CSE, IT or ECE with software modules, BCA plus MCA, or BSc Computer Science. Non-computing graduates: UCD Conversion MSc, or UCC's Higher Diploma in Applied Computing Technology passed with First Class honours and 15 ECTS of programming |
| Degree length | Honours bachelor's at NFQ Level 8; Maynooth requires a 4-year bachelor's | A 4-year BTech/BE is accepted everywhere; a 3-year BSc or BCA is assessed case by case, strongest with an MCA or work experience |
| Class of degree | 2.1 at Trinity, DCU, UCC, Maynooth, TU Dublin; Galway prefers first class, with a good 2.1 at the director's discretion | UCC: 2.1 = 66–74% where first division is 60% (70–79% where it is 65%), or CGPA 7.5/10; first class = 75%+ or CGPA 8.5/10 |
| Programming | Trinity sets a programming test in C, C++ or Java; Galway's AI MSc is not a conversion course; TU Dublin accepts a 2.2 with 2 years of software work | Keep GitHub links ready; clear backlogs first |
| English | IELTS 6.5 overall at Trinity, UCD and Galway (Galway: 6.5 in writing, 6.0 elsewhere); DCU refers to its own English requirements page. UCD does not accept IELTS retake scores | Check band minimums on each programme page. Trinity and UCD may exempt a degree taught wholly in English on a formal letter |

Sources: tcd.ie cost-of-living page and fees table; ireland.ie New Delhi visa fees; irishimmigration.ie finance page. Checked 26 Sep 2026. €1 = ₹109. Total = tuition + Trinity living range + €55 application + about €49 visa fee; nothing is counted twice. Part-time work is capped at 20 hours a week in term, 40 in June–September and 15 December–15 January.
How to apply for an MS in Computer Science in Ireland from India: timeline for September 2027
Irish universities take applications directly; there is no central postgraduate portal. Computing programmes fill early, so treat these dates as latest sensible points.
September–October 2026: shortlist by fee, city and strand
Pick 4–6 programmes across two cities and compare content with the roles you want. Galway's portal opens on 1 October.
October–November 2026: book IELTS or request an MOI letter
Target IELTS 6.5 overall and check each programme's band minimums. UCD does not accept retake scores, so prepare for one clean attempt, or ask your registrar for a medium-of-instruction letter.
November 2026 – January 2027: submit applications
Upload transcripts, degree or provisional certificate, two academic references, a CV and a statement naming the modules and projects behind your interest. Trinity's Data Science strand closed on 30 January 2026 last cycle and Intelligent Systems on 30 June; UCC's non-EU cut-off is 15 June but places go earlier.
January–March 2027: Trinity programming test and offers
Trinity tests shortlisted applicants in C, C++ or Java. Apply for UCD's Global Excellence Scholarship once you hold an offer.
March–May 2027: accept, pay as instructed, arrange the loan
Collateral loans from banks such as SBI and non-collateral lenders such as Prodigy Finance or MPOWER are examples, not endorsements; check each lender's current university list. Remittances go through the LRS route, so check current Income Tax Department rules on TCS before paying.
May–June 2027: lodge the D study visa
Apply on AVATS, book VFS biometrics, pay ₹5,300 (single entry) and submit the offer letter, proof that fees are paid as the Embassy and your university instruct, bank statements showing €10,000 (about ₹10.9 lakh) in funds, loan sanction, IELTS or MOI letter and medical insurance. New Delhi quotes 4–8 weeks and warns that files lodged under 3 weeks before the course start may not be decided in time.
August–September 2027: arrive, register, start
Arrive 1–2 weeks early, register for your IRP (€300, about ₹33,000) within 90 days, get a PPS number and open a bank account. DCU also runs a January intake if your visa or loan runs late.

Jobs after MS in Computer Science in Ireland: Stamp 1G, Critical Skills permit and the official labour-market picture
A Level 9 MSc qualifies you for the Third Level Graduate Programme: Stamp 1G for 12 months, renewed for a further 12 where you show you are seeking graduate-level work, so 24 months to work full-time for any employer without a permit. Dependants cannot join you on Stamp 1G.
The Critical Skills Occupations List names the roles an MSc in CS leads to: 2133 and 2134 IT managers, 2135 IT business analysts and architects, 2136 software development professionals, 2137 web developers and 2139 other ICT professionals. A Critical Skills Employment Permit for these roles needs a salary of €40,904 (about ₹44.6 lakh), or €36,848 (₹40.2 lakh) if you obtained your degree within the previous 12 months. It needs no labour-market test and allows immediate family reunification. Roles outside the list use the General Employment Permit at €36,605 (about ₹39.9 lakh), or €34,009 (about ₹37.1 lakh) for recent Irish graduates, usually with a labour-market needs test.
The CSO's Labour Force Survey for Q2 2026 put employment at 2,839,300 and unemployment at 5.1%. The Earnings and Labour Costs release for Q2 2026 shows average weekly earnings in Information and Communication of €1,730.61 (about ₹1.89 lakh) against €1,046.88 (about ₹1.14 lakh) across all sectors. Hiring is selective, so start applications and an industry-linked dissertation early.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an MS in Computer Science in Ireland cost for Indian students?
Tuition for 2026/27 ranges from €18,000 at Maynooth (about ₹19.6 lakh) through €25,000 at DCU (₹27.3 lakh) and €27,790 at Trinity (₹30.3 lakh) to €31,780 at UCD (₹34.6 lakh). Add Trinity's €21,050–€27,050 Dublin living estimate, which already includes insurance, IRP and flights, so budget roughly ₹53–60 lakh for Trinity.
Can I do an MS in CS in Ireland after a 3-year BSc Computer Science or BCA?
Sometimes. A 4-year BTech is accepted everywhere, and Maynooth explicitly requires a 4-year bachelor's. A 3-year BSc CS or BCA is assessed case by case, strongest with an MCA, 2–3 years of software experience or 66% or more.
Is GRE required for MS in Computer Science in Ireland?
No. None of Trinity, UCD, UCC, Galway, DCU, UL, Maynooth or TU Dublin asks for a GRE or GMAT for its MSc in Computer Science, AI or software engineering. Trinity instead runs a programming test in C, C++ or Java, and all of them weigh transcripts, references and your statement of purpose.
What percentage do I need for MS in Computer Science in Ireland?
A 2.1 honours degree, which UCC maps to 66–74% where your university awards first division at 60% (70–79% where it is 65%), or a CGPA of 7.5 out of 10. Galway prefers first class, which UCC equates to 75% or above, but accepts a good 2.1 at the programme director's discretion.
When should I apply for MS in CS in Ireland for the September 2027 intake?
Between November 2026 and January 2027. Galway's portal opens on 1 October, Trinity's Data Science strand closed on 30 January 2026 last cycle, and UCC accepts non-EU applications until 15 June or until places fill. You need an offer by April to lodge the visa well before orientation.
Are software developers on the Critical Skills Occupations List in Ireland?
Yes. The list includes 2136 programmers and software development professionals, 2135 IT business analysts and architects, 2137 web developers, 2133 and 2134 IT managers and 2139 other ICT professionals. The permit needs €40,904 a year (about ₹44.6 lakh), or €36,848 (₹40.2 lakh) within 12 months of graduating.
What is the average salary in the IT sector in Ireland?
The CSO's Earnings and Labour Costs release for Q2 2026 puts average weekly earnings in Information and Communication at about €1,730 a week (₹1.89 lakh), against €1,046.88 (₹1.14 lakh) for all sectors. Graduate roles start below that average; the €36,848 (₹40.2 lakh) permit floor is a realistic first-job benchmark.
Can I do an AI masters in Ireland without a computer science degree?
Rarely into the AI MScs themselves: Galway's is not a conversion course and Trinity, DCU and UL want computing or a numerate degree with programming. UCD's 16-month MSc Computer Science (Conversion) at €29,500 (₹32.2 lakh) and UCC's Higher Diploma in Applied Computing Technology, passed with First Class honours, are the routes for arts, commerce or non-software engineering graduates.
