Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) was a public higher education institution in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. Founded in 1971 as a Regional Technical College and later redesignated an Institute of Technology, it offered undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across business, engineering, science, computing, nursing, tourism, and the creative arts, with a strong focus on applied learning and regional skills needs in the north-west of Ireland. LYIT operated a main campus on Port Road in Letterkenny and served a significant local and international student body. On 1 April 2022 it amalgamated with Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology Sligo to form Atlantic Technological University (ATU); the Letterkenny site continues as ATU Donegal. As an Institute of Technology, LYIT emphasised industry-linked teaching, professional programmes, and applied research rather than the classic research-university model, while remaining a major educational and economic anchor for County Donegal.
