Max Delbrück Center

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is a leading biomedical research institute in Berlin, Germany. Named after Nobel Prize-winning physicist and biologist Max Delbrück, it is a member of the Helmholtz Association and focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of disease, particularly cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, cancer, rare diseases, and neurological conditions. Established in 1992, the MDC operates as a non-university public research institution, working closely with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and other academic partners to translate basic science into clinical applications. Located on the Berlin-Buch campus, the MDC hosts advanced research laboratories, technology platforms, and core facilities that support genomics, imaging, proteomics, and structural biology. While it is not a traditional university and does not award undergraduate degrees, it plays a major role in doctoral and postgraduate training through structured PhD programs and international graduate schools.
