Laurentian University

Laurentian University is a public bilingual university located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1960, it offers programs in both English and French and is one of the largest bilingual post-secondary institutions in the country. The university is known for its strengths in fields such as mining engineering, environmental sciences, Indigenous studies, and health sciences, and it serves students from across Canada and around the world. In 2021, Laurentian underwent a major financial restructuring under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), which led to the discontinuation of numerous programs and the termination of many faculty and staff positions. Following this restructuring, the university has continued to operate with a reduced program portfolio while maintaining its core undergraduate and graduate offerings. The campus is situated on nearly 800 acres along Ramsey Lake Road, featuring natural surroundings and a mix of academic, athletic, and residential facilities. Laurentian is classified as a comprehensive university and remains an important institution in Northern Ontario, contributing to regional education, research, and community engagement.
