It was created in 1999 through the merger of the Schule für Gestaltung Zürich and the Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich, offering programs in art, design, media, and art education. In 2007, HGKZ merged with the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Zürich to form the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK), which now continues its mission as one of Europe’s leading arts universities.
