The Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara is a public higher-education art school in Carrara, Tuscany, Italy. Founded in 1769 by Maria Teresa Cybo-Malaspina, Duchess of Massa and Princess of Carrara, it is one of Italy’s oldest academies of fine arts and is closely tied to the city’s centuries-old marble and sculpture tradition. It operates within Italy’s AFAM (Alta Formazione Artistica, Musicale e Coreutica) system and offers first- and second-level academic diplomas in disciplines such as painting, sculpture, decoration, scenography, graphic design, and new art technologies. The academy combines historical artistic training with contemporary practice, benefiting from Carrara’s famous quarries and local artisan workshops. Its urban campus includes historic buildings, specialized ateliers, workshops, laboratories, a library, and exhibition spaces used for teaching, research, and public events.
