The Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, commonly known as the Brera Academy, is one of Italy's oldest and most prestigious public fine arts academies. Located in the historic Brera district of Milan, it was founded in 1776 by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and has long served as a leading center for artistic training and culture in Italy. The academy is closely linked to the nearby Pinacoteca di Brera, one of the country's foremost art museums, and has educated generations of painters, sculptors, architects, and designers. Today it offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in painting, sculpture, decoration, scenography, graphic art, design, restoration, and new technologies for art, attracting students from across Italy and abroad. Its teaching approach combines traditional techniques with contemporary artistic practices, and it benefits from Milan's position as a global capital of art, design, and fashion.
