An MSc in finance in Germany costs about ₹25 lakh to ₹81 lakh in total, because the fee regime differs. Goethe University Frankfurt, HWR Berlin and TH Augsburg charge no tuition, Baden-Württemberg (Mannheim, Ulm) charges non-EU students €1,500 a semester (about ₹1.64 lakh), TUM charges €6,000 (about ₹6.5 lakh), and Frankfurt School's Master of Finance charges €44,000 in total (about ₹48 lakh). Most programmes ask for a GMAT or GRE, applicants with a B.Com, BBA, economics or engineering degree now also need the dMAT (€150, about ₹16,400) for intakes from the summer semester 2027, and graduates can stay up to 18 months to find a job.
Is an MSc in finance in Germany worth it for Indian students?
Germany offers two very different products under the same name. The first is the state-funded or low-fee master's: Goethe University Frankfurt's Money, Macro and Finance has no tuition, HWR Berlin and TH Augsburg charge only a semester contribution, and Mannheim and Ulm charge €1,500 a semester (about ₹1.64 lakh) because they are in Baden-Württemberg. The second is the private finance school: Frankfurt School and WHU charge €8,875–10,500 a semester (about ₹9.7–11.4 lakh), run dedicated careers services, and publish placement results. The tuition gap between the two is about ₹33–48 lakh, so decide first what you are buying.
Finance jobs in Germany cluster where banks and public authorities are: the Federal Employment Agency notes that economist roles are more common in metropolitan areas such as Rhine-Main and Berlin and scarce in regions dominated by mid-sized firms. Employers set their own language requirements, so plan to learn German. Frankfurt School reports that 82% of its class of 2025 worked in Germany, and the Federal Employment Agency's figures below show a financial-sector labour market with very low unemployment but few vacancies. A Germany master's is a strong, lower-cost route into this market, not a placement promise.
Which German universities offer an MSc in finance in English, and what do they charge?
These ten programmes were read on DAAD International Programmes or the school page on 26 September 2026. Tuition is the amount charged to non-EU students such as Indians. Deadlines are for the next winter intake; confirm them on the university page.
| University and programme | Tuition per semester | Duration and deadline | Tests and English | Notes for Indian applicants |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goethe University Frankfurt, M.Sc. Money, Macro and Finance | €0; about €350 admin fee (≈ ₹38,200) | 4 semesters; winter only; DAAD lists 1 Apr–15 May for German applicants, non-EU applicants follow a separate university-wide deadline | GRE or GMAT with Quant at the 50th percentile; English proof | Letter of motivation up to 750 words; economics bachelor or equivalent; restricted admission |

For the Master of Finance, Frankfurt School's programme page and FAQ state €44,000 (about ₹48.0 lakh) plus a €600 enrolment fee and a €100 application fee, while DAAD lists €10,500 a semester (€42,000, about ₹45.8 lakh) plus a €400 enrolment fee; the cost table uses the school's higher figure, so confirm the current amount.
How much does a masters in finance in Germany cost in rupees?
The bulk of the difference is tuition. Living costs use the DAAD band of €900–1,200 a month; the blocked account is proof of funds you then spend, not an extra fee.
| Programme type | Tuition total | Approx. INR | Total with living costs and fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goethe Frankfurt, HWR Berlin or TH Augsburg (no tuition) | €0 | ₹0 | ≈ €23,000–30,200 or ₹25–33 lakh for 24 months (Goethe); HWR and Augsburg are 3 semesters, so about ₹19–25 lakh |
| Mannheim or Ulm (€1,500 a semester), 4 semesters | €6,000 | ₹6.5 lakh | ≈ €28,400–35,600 or ₹31–39 lakh |
| Nürtingen-Geislingen, 3 semesters | €4,500 | ₹4.9 lakh | ≈ €21,300–26,700 or ₹23–29 lakh |
| TUM FIM (€6,000 a semester), 4 semesters | €24,000 | ₹26.2 lakh | ≈ €46,000–53,200 or ₹50–58 lakh |
| Frankfurt School FinTech (€8,875 a semester), 4 semesters | €35,500 | ₹38.7 lakh | ≈ €58,600–65,800 or ₹64–72 lakh |
| Frankfurt School Master of Finance, 4 semesters (€44,000 on the school page; DAAD lists €42,000) | €42,000–44,000 (plus €500–700 in fees) | ₹45.8–48.0 lakh | ≈ €67,300–74,500 or ₹73–81 lakh on the school's €44,000 (about ₹2.4 lakh less on DAAD's €42,000), before early-bird discounts of €4,000 (about ₹4.4 lakh) or €2,000 (about ₹2.2 lakh) |
| WHU Master in Finance (€10,100 a semester), 3 or 4 semesters | €30,300 or €40,400 | ₹33.0 lakh or ₹44.0 lakh | ≈ €51,900–69,200 or ₹57–75 lakh at about €1,200 a month |
| Blocked account for the visa | €11,904 per year | ₹13.0 lakh | €992 a month; spent on living costs |
| dMAT test fee | €150 | ₹16,400 | Paid to g.a.s.t. when registering |

What do German finance masters ask from an Indian B.Com, BBA, economics or BTech graduate?
Each programme sets its own rules, so this is the pattern across the pages read on 26 September 2026, not a promise of eligibility.
| Requirement | What the official pages say | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Degree and subject mix | Mannheim: 180 ECTS or three years, with 36 ECTS in business administration. Ulm: mathematics-heavy, a business or commerce degree is usually not sufficient. Frankfurt School: 180 ECTS, business, economics or a quantitative degree. HWR Berlin: 210 ECTS, or 180 plus a placement | A three-year B.Com or BBA fits Mannheim and Frankfurt School; for Ulm and TUM FIM add maths and statistics; engineers can apply to Ulm and Frankfurt School. The pages read state no backlog rule, so clear backlogs first and ask how each university converts CGPA |
| GMAT or GRE | Frankfurt School: compulsory, or its own test. WHU: GMAT Focus 555 or GRE 158/158. TUM FIM: GMAT 65th percentile for Indian degrees. Goethe: Quant at the 50th percentile. Mannheim: counted in selection | Take the GMAT Focus Edition; if you cannot, check which schools accept the GRE or an internal test |
| Work and internships | WHU: up to four years of experience, at least 12 weeks of internships. HWR Berlin: six-month finance internship | These are pre-experience masters; a career switch at 6–8 years of experience belongs in an MBA |
| English | IELTS 7.0 at Frankfurt School, WHU, Mannheim and Augsburg; 6.5 at TUM FIM; B2 (IELTS 5.5) at Ulm and Nürtingen; HWR Berlin lists B2 with IELTS 6.5, or a GMAT above 600 in place of English proof. The visa section expects C1-level proof and does not recognise Duolingo, PTE or TOEFL Home Edition | Take IELTS Academic at 7.0 so one score serves admission and visa; 6.5 is enough for TUM FIM and HWR |
| APS and dMAT | APS certificate is part of the visa file; the dMAT is added for Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics and Business degrees from the summer semester 2027 intake | See the dMAT box below |
| Tuition proof for the visa | The German missions want proof that the first two semesters of tuition fees are paid for fee-charging programmes | Budget the first-year transfer under the RBI Liberalised Remittance Scheme; check current tax-at-source rules with your bank |

New in 2026: Commerce, finance and economics graduates now take the dMAT before the APS certificate

Frankfurt School's first early-bird discount closes on 30 November 2026 and WHU's visa-applicant deadline is 30 April 2027, so a student finishing a degree in 2027 should start in autumn 2026.
October 2026: shortlist and check the dMAT rule

November 2026–February 2027: IELTS Academic
Aim for 7.0 overall. Mannheim accepts test proofs no older than two years; keep the certificate under a year old for the visa appointment.
1 February–15 May 2027: Ulm, HWR Berlin and Goethe
Ulm accepts applications from 1 February to 15 March, HWR Berlin from 15 March to 15 May, and Goethe lists 1 April–15 May for German applicants while non-EU applicants follow a separate university-wide deadline to confirm.
30 April–1 June 2027: WHU, TUM FIM, Augsburg, Nürtingen
WHU closes on 30 April for visa applicants, TUM FIM on 31 May, Augsburg runs 1 May–15 June and Nürtingen closes on 1 June. Submit CV, transcripts, a motivation letter, test scores and references.
30 June 2027: Frankfurt School
The Master of Finance and FinTech deadline is 30 June 2027 for a 23 August 2027 start; a second early-bird discount of €2,000 (about ₹2.2 lakh) needs an application by 31 March 2027.
June–August 2027: tuition deposit, blocked account and visa
Pay the first-year tuition where required, open the €11,904 (about ₹13.0 lakh) blocked account, arrange health insurance and apply on the Consular Services Portal with APS, admission letter, language certificate and CV.
August–October 2027: arrive and enrol
Register your address, enrol and apply for the Section 16b residence permit before the visa expires.
What does the official labour-market data say about finance jobs in Germany in 2026?
The Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit, BA) groups finance, accounting, tax advice and auditing together. The picture is a large, low-unemployment field that has stopped growing.
| Indicator (Germany, 2025) | Latest figure | What it tells an applicant |
|---|---|---|
| Finance, accounting, tax and audit professionals | 275,000 in social-insurance jobs, 19% of 1.5 million economists | A large, established field |
| Unemployment rate, finance | 1.9% (up 0.2 points); 6,400 unemployed (up 18%) | Very low, but rising from a small base |
| Vacancies registered with the BA | 2,600 on average; 6,600 new postings in the year (up 3%) | Counts only the vacancies registered with the BA |
| All economics occupations | unemployment 3.0%; employment about flat in 2025; reported gross pay €7,321 (west) and €6,146 (east) a month | Pay (≈ ₹6.7–8.0 lakh a month gross) is high but the economy is weak |
| Economists (Volkswirte) | about 8,000 jobs; unemployment 8.8%; about 200 new postings | Pure economics roles are scarce outside Frankfurt and Berlin |
| Graduate supply | 84,000 economics graduates in 2024; 426,000 students | You compete with many German graduates |
Sources: Bundesagentur für Arbeit, Blickpunkt Arbeitsmarkt Akademiker, Kapitel 2.4 Wirtschaftswissenschaften (August 2026), read 26 Sep 2026. Pay figures are BA-reported gross monthly amounts for 2025 for all economics occupations, before German tax and social contributions. €1 = ₹109. Statistics describe averages, not your outcome. Frankfurt School's own class-of-2025 figures (95% employed within three months, average pay including bonus about €70,000 (about ₹76 lakh), 82% in Germany) are school-reported and not independently verified.
What can you do after the degree: the 18-month permit, Blue Card and student jobs
During the master's, Section 16b of the Residence Act lets you work up to 140 days a year. A day of up to four hours counts as half a day, a week of up to 20 hours in lecture time counts as 2.5 days, and so does any week outside lecture time, whatever the hours. Student assistant jobs at your own university do not count. A paid internship or working-student role at a bank or consultancy is the usual way to earn and to get a foot in the door, but HWR Berlin requires a six-month finance internship and WHU recommends internship experience, so plan them early.
After graduating, Section 20 gives you up to 18 months to find a job that fits your degree. A qualifying offer converts to an EU Blue Card. Finance is not on the shortage list, so the general threshold of €50,700 (about ₹55.3 lakh) a year applies, but graduates whose degree is less than three years old need only €45,934.20 (about ₹50.1 lakh), with Federal Employment Agency approval. Our Germany post-study work visa guide covers the full route.
How can you fund an MSc in finance in Germany, and what about CFA?
- Pick the fee regime first. Goethe, HWR Berlin and TH Augsburg charge no tuition; Mannheim and Ulm charge €6,000 (about ₹6.5 lakh) over four semesters; the private schools charge €30,000–44,000 (about ₹33–48 lakh).
- Frankfurt School merit and need-based scholarships, early-bird discounts of €4,000 (about ₹4.4 lakh, apply by 30 November 2026) and €2,000 (about ₹2.2 lakh, by 31 March 2027), a Frankfurt Institute of Risk Management scholarship covering up to two semesters' fees, and up to 60 Germany Scholarships of €300 a month (about ₹32,700).
- Goethe lists DAAD scholarships and the Deutschlandstipendium for the Money, Macro and Finance master; TUM offers a one-time grant for international students and fee waivers on separate applications.
- Education loans: the German missions treat a loan as additional to the blocked account and set no minimum loan amount. Terms differ by lender, so ask for the current collateral and moratorium rules in writing, and check current foreign-remittance and tax-at-source rules before you transfer money.
- CFA and other certifications: Frankfurt School states that its Master of Finance is affiliated with CFA Institute, CAIA and GARP. We could not verify any CFA or ACCA exam exemption for German master's degrees on an official page, so treat those as separate exams and check the awarding body directly.
Frequently asked questions
Is MSc finance in Germany free for Indian students?
Only at some universities. Goethe University Frankfurt's Money, Macro and Finance, HWR Berlin and TH Augsburg charge no tuition, just a semester fee of about €177–350 (₹19,300–38,200). Mannheim and Ulm charge €1,500 a semester (about ₹1.64 lakh), TUM €6,000 (about ₹6.5 lakh), and Frankfurt School and WHU €8,875–10,500 a semester (about ₹9.7–11.4 lakh).
Which German universities offer MSc finance in English?
Goethe University Frankfurt (Money, Macro and Finance), Mannheim (Master in Management with finance courses), Ulm, TUM with Bayreuth (Finance and Information Management), Nürtingen-Geislingen, HWR Berlin, TH Augsburg, Frankfurt School and WHU all teach finance masters in English. Use the DAAD International Programmes database to filter by tuition and deadline.
Is GMAT required for MSc finance in Germany?
Often yes. Frankfurt School requires a GMAT, GRE or its own admission test, and TUM FIM requires a GMAT at the 65th percentile for Indian degrees. WHU asks for a GMAT Focus 555 or GRE 158/158, Goethe a Quant percentile of 50, and Mannheim counts GMAT or GRE in selection. Ulm and Nürtingen list none.
How much does a masters in finance in Germany cost in rupees?
Between about ₹25 lakh and ₹81 lakh including living costs. A tuition-free programme costs ₹25–33 lakh for two years, Mannheim or Ulm ₹31–39 lakh, TUM FIM ₹50–58 lakh, and Frankfurt School's Master of Finance ₹73–81 lakh (€44,000 tuition on the school page) before early-bird discounts of €2,000–4,000 (about ₹2.2–4.4 lakh).
Can a B.Com or BBA graduate apply for MSc finance in Germany?
Yes at several, but check the subject mix. Mannheim wants 36 ECTS in business administration, Frankfurt School and Nürtingen accept business degrees, but Ulm says a business, commerce or accounting degree is usually not sufficient because the programme is mathematics-heavy. A B.Com or BBA also triggers the dMAT for intakes from the summer 2027.
Does the dMAT apply to B.Com, BBA and economics graduates?
Yes. APS India lists Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics and Business and Management among the affected fields for the summer semester 2027 intake and later. The test costs €150 (about ₹16,400) and is added to the APS file. You are exempt if you registered or shipped APS documents before 29 June 2026, or already have an APS certificate.
Is there a fintech masters in Germany for Indian students?
Frankfurt School offers an English Master in Financial Technology at €8,875 a semester, about ₹38.7 lakh over four semesters, with a 30 June deadline and a GMAT, GRE or school-test requirement. TUM's Finance and Information Management (€6,000 a semester, about ₹6.5 lakh) blends finance, data and computational analytics.
Do finance graduates get jobs in Germany in 2026?
The Federal Employment Agency reports 275,000 finance and accounting professionals, 1.9% unemployment, 6,600 new postings in 2025 (up 3%) and 6,400 unemployed (up 18%). Hiring is steady rather than booming, and employers set their own language requirements, so plan German lessons from your first semester.
