University of Southern Maine

The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university with campuses in Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston. It is part of the University of Maine System and offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across liberal arts, business, education, health sciences, engineering, and the arts. USM is known for its community engagement, applied research, and strong ties to the economic and cultural life of southern Maine. USM traces its origins to Gorham Academy, founded in 1878, and was established in its current form in 1970 through the merger of the University of Maine at Portland and the University of Maine at Gorham.
