The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public land-grant research university headquartered in Storrs, Connecticut. Founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School, it has grown into the state's flagship institution and a member of the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities system. UConn offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs across its main campus in Storrs and regional campuses in Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury, and Avery Point, as well as a School of Law and a School of Medicine. UConn is classified as an R1 research university and is known for strong programs in engineering, business, pharmacy, nursing, agriculture, and the arts and sciences. The university is also recognized for its NCAA Division I athletic teams, the UConn Huskies, particularly its men's and women's basketball programs. The main Storrs campus spans more than 4,000 acres and includes extensive research facilities, modern residence halls, libraries, and a large recreation and sports complex. With an enrollment of around 32,000 students across all campuses, UConn attracts a diverse student body that includes several thousand international students from more than 100 countries. The university maintains a moderately selective admissions process and provides extensive undergraduate research, study abroad, and career development opportunities.
