The University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine or UCI) is a public land-grant research university and one of the 10 campuses of the University of California system. Founded in 1965 and located in Irvine, California, in the heart of Orange County, UCI is known for its strong research output, innovation, and diverse academic programs spanning science, engineering, health sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. It is a member of the Association of American Universities and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity."
