State University of New York (Albany)

The University at Albany, State University of New York (UAlbany) is a public research university located in New York's capital city. Founded in 1844 as a teacher-preparation school, it has grown into a major research institution offering more than 120 undergraduate majors and minors and over 125 graduate programs through its nine schools and colleges. The university is known for its strengths in public policy, criminal justice, atmospheric sciences, social welfare, business, and public health, and it serves as a hub for research and public engagement in the Capital Region. UAlbany is one of the four university centers of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is classified among doctoral universities with very high research activity.
