Eastern Virginia Medical School

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is a public medical school located in Norfolk, Virginia. Founded in 1973, it was established as a community-based medical school with a mission to train physicians and health professionals, advance biomedical research, and improve health outcomes in southeastern Virginia and beyond. EVMS is closely affiliated with major regional hospitals, including Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, which serve as key clinical training sites for students and residents. The institution offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, as well as graduate programs in physician assistant, public health, biomedical sciences, art therapy and counseling, and other health professions fields. In 2024, EVMS merged with Old Dominion University and became the EVMS School of Medicine at Old Dominion University, while retaining its distinct identity, campus, and mission in medical education and research. The school emphasizes community engagement, service learning, and research across areas such as cancer, reproductive medicine, pediatrics, and health disparities.
