Magdeburg

Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg) is a public research university located in Magdeburg, the capital city of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Founded in 1993 following German reunification, it was established through the merger of several existing institutions, including the former Technical University, College of Education, and Medical Academy. The university is named after Otto von Guericke, the 17th-century physicist, inventor, and former mayor of Magdeburg, who is renowned for his experiments with the Magdeburg hemispheres demonstrating atmospheric pressure. The university offers a wide range of academic programs across nine faculties, including engineering, computer science, natural sciences, mathematics, medicine, economics, management, and the humanities and social sciences. It is particularly recognized for its strengths in engineering, systems science, neuroscience, and medical research.
