Yale University

Yale University is a private Ivy League research university in New Haven, Connecticut, and one of the oldest higher-education institutions in the United States. Founded in 1701 as the Collegiate School and renamed in honor of benefactor Elihu Yale, it is known for rigorous academics, a distinctive residential-college system, and strong programs across the arts and sciences, law, medicine, management, drama, music, and public health. Yale combines undergraduate liberal arts education with major graduate and professional schools and extensive research activity. Its campus is woven into downtown New Haven and includes historic Gothic architecture, major libraries such as Sterling Memorial Library and the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, museums, laboratories, and athletic facilities. The university maintains a highly selective admissions process and a substantial international student presence. Yale’s academic and cultural life is organized in part around residential colleges that provide housing, advising, and community for undergraduates, alongside university-wide research centers, performing arts venues, and clinical and scientific facilities affiliated with its professional schools.
