University of West London

The University of West London (UWL) is a public university based mainly in west London, with principal campuses in Ealing and Brentford. It evolved from earlier local colleges and operated as Thames Valley University before adopting its current name in 2011. UWL is known for practice-oriented teaching and strong links with industry, especially in nursing and health, hospitality and tourism, business, law, computing, and the creative arts, including the London College of Music. The university serves a diverse student body that includes a large share of mature, commuting, and international students. Teaching and facilities are organised around career outcomes, professional accreditation, and applied learning rather than a traditional research-intensive model. Its London location supports placements, employer partnerships, and access to cultural and professional networks across the capital. UWL’s main teaching and student services hub is the St Mary’s Road campus in Ealing, with additional specialist facilities at Brentford (including the Paragon site). The institution continues to expand course provision and campus amenities while positioning itself as an accessible, vocationally focused London university.
