University of the Bundeswehr Munich

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich (Universität der Bundeswehr München, UniBw M) is a public federal research university in Neubiberg, Bavaria, just southeast of Munich. Founded in 1973, it is Germany's dedicated university for the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) and combines academic education with military training. Although it primarily educates officer candidates and other service members, it also admits a limited number of civilian students, especially in engineering, economics, and social sciences. The university is organized into faculties spanning engineering (including aerospace, electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering), economics and social sciences, and human sciences. Programs emphasize applied research, practical engineering, and leadership-oriented education. Teaching and research are closely linked to defense, security, technology, and public administration, with strong ties to industry, government institutions, and international academic partners. UniBw Munich is known for its compact, well-equipped suburban campus and a research profile focused on defense technology, cybersecurity, logistics, aerospace systems, and management. It offers modern laboratories, simulation facilities, and interdisciplinary research centers. While smaller than typical German universities, it maintains a strong reputation in engineering and applied sciences within Germany's higher education landscape.
