Stephen F. Austin State University

Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) is a public university located in Nacogdoches, Texas, in the East Texas Piney Woods region. Founded in 1923 as a teachers college and named after Stephen F. Austin, the empresario known as the "Father of Texas," the institution has grown into a comprehensive master's-level university. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs across six colleges, including liberal arts, business, education, forestry and agriculture, sciences and mathematics, and fine arts. The university serves a diverse student body and is known for strong programs in forestry, agriculture, education, nursing, and the performing arts. Its 406-acre campus features a mix of historic and modern facilities, including the Ralph W. Steen Library, the William R. Johnson Coliseum, and extensive student housing and recreation spaces. SFA's athletic teams, the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks, compete in NCAA Division I as part of the Southland Conference, and the university maintains an active campus life with numerous student organizations, cultural events, and outdoor activities.
