Norwich University, known as The Military College of Vermont, is a private senior military college located in Northfield, Vermont. Founded in 1819 by Alden Partridge, it is the oldest private military college in the United States and is widely regarded as the birthplace of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) concept. The university offers both a Corps of Cadets lifestyle and a traditional civilian student experience, emphasizing leadership, discipline, service, and academic rigor across a range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The institution provides degrees in fields such as engineering, nursing, business, cybersecurity, criminal justice, and the liberal arts. It is one of the six senior military colleges in the U.S. and maintains a strong connection to the armed forces, while also welcoming students who do not pursue military commissions. Norwich's campus spans a large rural area in central Vermont and supports a close-knit community with extensive academic, athletic, and residential facilities.
