Mayo Clinic

Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science (MCCMS) is the private, nonprofit educational arm of Mayo Clinic, one of the world's leading academic medical centers. Headquartered in Rochester, Minnesota, with additional major campuses in Jacksonville, Florida, and Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, it offers graduate and professional education in medicine, biomedical sciences, health sciences, and graduate medical education rather than traditional undergraduate liberal arts degrees. The institution is closely integrated with Mayo Clinic's hospitals and research enterprise, emphasizing patient-centered care, biomedical research, and clinical training. Its schools include the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, and the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Mayo Clinic itself was founded in Rochester in 1889 by Dr. William Worrall Mayo and his sons, William and Charles. The Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, which established the organization's formal educational mission, was created in 1915. Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine opened in 1972. MCCMS is highly selective, especially for its MD program, and is widely regarded for clinical excellence, research output, and training future physicians and scientists.
