Iowa Wesleyan University was a private, Methodist-affiliated liberal arts university in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Founded in 1842, it was one of the oldest institutions of higher education west of the Mississippi River and offered undergraduate and graduate programs in fields such as business, education, nursing, and the arts and sciences. Before its permanent closure on May 1, 2023, Iowa Wesleyan served a small, close-knit student body on a compact campus in southeastern Iowa. The university emphasized personalized instruction, community engagement, and career-oriented programs typical of a regional private college. The institution closed after years of financial strain and declining enrollment. Its campus and assets were subsequently addressed through state oversight and sale processes. Prospective students should treat Iowa Wesleyan as a closed institution and verify current status through official Iowa state higher-education records rather than legacy admissions channels.
