The Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) is New York University’s graduate school for advanced study in the history of art and archaeology and the conservation of works of art and historic sites. Based in the James B. Duke House on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, it is one of the leading graduate art-history programs in the United States, combining research, teaching, and close ties to New York’s museums and collections. IFA offers M.A. and Ph.D. programs in art history and archaeology, as well as specialized training in conservation through its Conservation Center. Students work with a large faculty of scholars and conservators and benefit from access to NYU libraries, nearby museum resources, and the institute’s own study collections and conservation laboratories.
