The Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit artists’ community and residency organization dedicated to emerging writers and visual artists. Founded in 1968 by artists and writers associated with the Provincetown arts tradition, it is best known for its seven-month fellowship program, which provides studio or living space, stipends, and mentorship in a concentrated creative environment on Cape Cod. Beyond the core fellowships, FAWC offers summer workshops, readings, exhibitions, and public programs that connect residents with established practitioners and the wider arts community. It is not a degree-granting university; it functions as an independent arts residency and educational center rather than a conventional college or research university.
