Divide your CGPA by your university's maximum scale (10 or 5) and multiply by 4. For example, a 9.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale equals (9/10) × 4 = 3.6 GPA on the 4.0 scale.
Most US universities accept Indian CGPA but may convert it via WES, ECE or in-house. The 4-point conversion (CGPA × 0.4 for 10-scale) is the most widely-used estimate.
A GPA of 3.0+ meets minimum requirements for most US universities, 3.3+ is competitive, and 3.7+ is excellent for top-tier schools like MIT, Stanford and Carnegie Mellon.
