Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Swedish: Konstfack, Högskolan för konst, design och konsthantverk) is Sweden’s largest and oldest university college specializing in art, crafts, design, and art education. Founded in 1844, it has evolved from a crafts school into a modern public institution offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral-level education in a wide range of artistic and design disciplines. Its programs emphasize artistic practice, critical thinking, sustainability, and social engagement, training artists, designers, craftspeople, and art educators for professional careers and research. The university is located at Telefonplan in southern Stockholm, moving into a purpose-built campus designed by architect Gert Wingårdh in 2004. The campus houses workshops, studios, a library, and exhibition spaces that support hands-on, material-based learning across fine art, design, crafts, and visual communication. Konstfack maintains strong ties with cultural institutions, industries, and international partner schools, and regularly participates in exhibitions such as the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Dutch Design Week. As a public university college, Konstfack is funded and regulated by the Swedish government. It is known for its high student-to-staff ratio, studio-based teaching, and commitment to interdisciplinary and socially oriented projects. Admission is competitive and portfolio-based, with an annual intake of several hundred students across its degree programs.
