Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS; 京都先端科学大学) is a private university in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. It was formerly known as Kyoto Gakuen University and adopted its current name in April 2019 to reflect a stronger focus on science, technology, and global education. KUAS operates mainly from the Uzumasa Campus in Kyoto City and the Kameoka Campus in Kameoka, offering undergraduate and graduate programs across fields such as engineering, economics, business, humanities, bioenvironmental science, and health and medical sciences. The university is especially known internationally for its English-taught Faculty of Engineering, which attracts students from abroad and emphasizes practical, industry-oriented learning in areas such as mechanical and electrical engineering. KUAS positions itself as an applied, career-focused institution rather than a large comprehensive national research university, with growing international partnerships and English-language support for overseas applicants. As a private Japanese university, KUAS combines traditional Japanese higher-education structures with newer globalized programs, campus facilities for teaching and research, and student services aimed at both domestic and international learners.
