University of Jyväskylä

The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) is a public research university located in Jyväskylä, central Finland. Founded in 1863 as Finland's first Finnish-language teacher-training seminary, it evolved into the University of Jyväskylä in 1966. It is known for strong programs in education, psychology, sport and health sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and information technology, and emphasizes multidisciplinary research and high-quality teaching. JYU operates mainly on two adjacent campuses near the city center—Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne—offering modern facilities including libraries, research laboratories, sports and wellness centers, student housing, and dining services. The university has about 14,500 students and roughly 2,500 staff, with a vibrant international community and numerous English-taught master's programs.
