RMIT University (officially the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) is a public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1887 as the Working Men's College by philanthropist Francis Ormond, it was granted university status in 1992. It is now one of Australia's largest tertiary institutions, with a strong reputation in art and design, architecture, engineering, computing, and technology, and close links to industry. The university operates several campuses in Melbourne, including its main City campus in the central business district, as well as campuses in Brunswick and Bundoora. It also has a significant international presence through RMIT Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
